you need to login under an administrator account to change this.

You have fallen into one of the HUGE traps Widows sets for the unwary. You’ll only do this once, because you’ll NEVER forget this time.
When a computer is setup under a domain, a special file is created that allows the computer to boot id it cannot find the domain when it starts up.
If you, under and administrator account, go into system>computer name and change the setup from domain to work group, Windows, without giving you a way to recover, DELETES this special file, and then asks you to restart. When you restart, you are now officially MS buzzard bait.
Now the only person that can log into the computer is the administrator WHO SET UP THE COMPUTER ORIGINALLY with the ORIGINAL administrator name and password.
I hate to tell you this, but you have 2 choices:
1. Contact the IT Department that set up the machine, beg forgiveness and have them set up the domain again
2. If the IT Department is not an option – reload the operating system from scratch.
Sorry – But have a nice day anyway
And Yes – It happened to me (and my knees are killing me!!)
