Domain name is the name of your website which you should register with a domain registrar whereas hosting is the space where you will host your website.
You need a hosting either free or paid to run a website and both are different.

See from wikipedia,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosting
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name
Domain name has multiple related meanings:
-A hostname that identifies a computer or computers on the Internet. These names appear as a component of a Web site’s URL, e.g. en.wikipedia.org.
-Registered domain names, which are obtained from domain name registrars.
-Names used for other purposes in the Domain Name System (DNS), for example the special name which follows the @ sign in an email address, or the Top-level domain names like .com, or the names used by the Session Initiation Protocol (VoIP), or DomainKeys.
Hosting can mean:
-Self-hosting – software distribution which provides all necessary source code to enable itself to be re-compiled from scratch
-Internet hosting service, including: Web hosting service, XEN hosting service, Shared web hosting service, Dedicated hosting service, One-click hosting, Reseller hosting.
That why you so confuse, hehehe.

Domain = url of a site
.com .net .org .info(Cheapest)
There are some other free domains as will
In general, domains are just an easy way to locate a web page.
Every site is hosted on a computer (Server.)
Sites usually have ip addresses. e.g: google.com= 209.85.133.147
but it would be hard to remember each site’s ip. This why people use domains.
basically, you type a domain to get you to the address where the site exists (on the server)

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

A domain is basically just a name such as Yahoo.com or Google.com. There are many different domain extensions such as .com, .org, .net and so forth. These can be all registered with what’s called an internet registrar similar to registering your vehicle with the DMV.
Hosting is actually having room on a server to house the files for your website, as well as things like email addresses and data storage. Without a hosting package, you would most likely get an error when navigating to a domain, and without a domain people would not be able to easily find a site.
All webpages are, simply put, data stored at an IP address, such as 74.125.45.100 and the domain makes it easier for people to find by associating the domain with the IP and/or site location.
A good analogy would be the relationship between a house (being the hosting) and the mailing address of that house (being the domain).
There are many different types of hosting plans and domain registration companies out there so be sure to pick one that best suites your needs.
Hope this answers your question

This is realy confusing for a new user who want to register his/her own website. To create a website, you need both domain and hosting. In simple word, hosting is the place, where the content of your web site (eg, script, images, database etc) are stored and the domain is the road to reach the place.
To enter in a web site, we write a WEB address in the browser, that is the domain name (eg. yahoo.com, http://vabna.co.cc etc).
And hosting is the place, where we upload scripts, images etc for our web site.
