tomshardware puts the x850xt slightly below the 8600gt would you buy the 8600gt if your x850xt died? & you need a card for about the same value?

the x850xt was a great card when it was introduced. (still is) However, since it is a few years old, it lacks some of the support that the 8600 has. Like directx10 support. I have the 8600gt and love it. Can’t beat it for the $$$. If you can afford to, I would spend a little more and get the GTS reference since the chipset on that one is better and it has HD video support. (some of the GTs do not) Next week, though, nvidia is shipping the new 8800gt. This release is sure to affect the pricing on the midrange cards like the 8600 so keep an eye on that. It should launch around $250 and you could see a price cut on the 8800gts and 8600gts and gt models. Other than that, if you can get the 8600gt for around $120, it is a deal. It will struggle with some of the newest, hardcore games on higher resolutions, but all-in-all it is a good mid-range card.
